Corridans is an accredited organisation for the delivery of first aid courses there are a wide variety of courses offered which include:

First aid at work: 3 Day course for those needing the full workplace qualification

First aid at work requalification:  2 Day course for those whose First aid at work certificate is due to expire.

Emergency First Aid at Work: 1 Day course for those needing to be first aid qualified

First Aid at Work Annual Refresher: Half Day course recommended for all qualified first aiders. 

 

Combined FAW & Paediatric: 3 Day course for those needing the full workplace qualification and early years

Paediatric First Aid: 2 Day course for those needing an early years qualification

Emergency Paediatric First Aid: 1 Day course for those needing an early years qualification

 

Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator: Half Day course for those requiring a basic understanding and use of AED

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillation: Half Day course in CPR and AED use.

How many first aiders of what type are required?

Alternatively the following is the HSE standard recommendations.

Every company needs to undertake their own risk assessment to determine the amount of people and equipment required in the workplace. This risk assessment should be renewed every 3 years in line with the qualification duration. The following is the HSE’s guide on suggested numbers of first-aid personnel to be available at all times when staff are at work.

Risk assessment degree of hazard associated with the work activities?

First-aid personnel need

Low hazard

eg offices, shops, libraries

Less than 25

At least one appointed person

25-50

At least one first-aider trained in EFAW

More than 50

At least one first-aider trained in FAW for every 100 employed (or part thereof)

Higher hazard

  • eg light engineering,
  • assembly work,
  • food processing,
  • warehousing,
  • extensive work with dangerous machinery or sharp instruments, construction,
  • chemical manufacture

Less than 5

At least one appointed person

5-50

At least one first-aider trained in EFAW or FAW depending on the type of injuries that might occur

More than 50

At least one first-aider trained in FAW for every 50 employed (or part thereof)
